Care, Ross Threads of Melody: The Evolution of a Major Film Score — Walt Disney's Bambi - — From the study of two rare scores in the Music Division of the Library of Congress the author discusses the several-years development of composer Frank Churchill's original material into the final symphonic score as arranged and refined by orchestrator Edward Plumb and a staff of Disney studio musicians. Article includes original film and production stills, composer portraits, and rare printed musical excerpts from the Library's piano conductor's score and the first draft manuscript score.

Care, Ross, “Lisztomania,” Film Quarterly, vol. XXXI, #4, spring, 1978. An in-depth review of the film by Ken Russell that explores the historical/cultural facts woven into the controversial director's biographical fantasy.
      Lisztomania is very freely based on the life of composer/piano virtuoso Franz Liszt, who Russell sees as one of the first pop superstars. It also explores his relationship with Richard Wagner in whose epic music Russell sees a horrific premonition of Nazi Germany.

Care, Ross, “The Music of Sound: Alfred Hitchcock Rear Window,” Scarlet Street, (#37, 2000). A detailed look at the use of sound and music in the 1954 Hitchcock film. Composer Franz Waxman provided the original musical theme but a variety of other music cues were woven into the film's total soundtrack.
